Setting Up an External Wallet for Gnosis Chain

This article is for users who wish to explore the wider Gnosis Chain ecosystem outside of Gnosis Pay. You’ll learn how to set up a third-party wallet, add the Gnosis Chain network, and fund your new wallet.

Note: These steps involve external platforms like third party wallets, bridges, and exchanges. Gnosis Pay does not control these services. Use them at your own risk.

⚡ Using Rabby Wallet?

Good news! Rabby Wallet supports Gnosis Chain by default — you don’t need to manually add the network or configure anything. Simply install Rabby and switch networks directly in the interface.

Part 1: Set Up and Configure Your Wallet

MetaMask is one of the most commonly used wallets for interacting with Gnosis Chain. However it requires to manually add Gnosis Chain Network to the wallet.

✅ Step 1: Install MetaMask

• Visit metamask.io and follow instructions to install it for your browser or mobile device.

• During setup, you’ll be shown a Secret Recovery Phrase.
  Never share this phrase. Store it securely offline.

   

✅ Step 2: Add Gnosis Chain Network

Automatic Method:

• Go to chainlist.org

• Connect your wallet and click “Add to MetaMask”

• Approve the prompts

Manual Method:

1. Open MetaMask and click the network dropdown

2. Click “Add network” > “Add a network manually”

3. Enter:

   • Network Name: Gnosis Chain

   • New RPC URL: https://rpc.gnosischain.com

   • Chain ID: 100

   • Currency Symbol: xDai

   • Block Explorer URL: https://gnosisscan.io

4. Click Save

    

✅ Step 3: Switch to Gnosis Chain

• Open MetaMask and click the network dropdown

• Select Gnosis Chain from the list

Part 2: Add Funds to Your Wallet

To transact on Gnosis Chain, you’ll need xDai for gas. Here are three common ways to get it:

🔁 Method A: Bridge Crypto from Another Network

• Use a bridge aggregator like jumper.exchange or swaps.so

• Choose your current network and token (e.g. ETH on Arbitrum)

• Set the destination to Gnosis Chain and select xDai

• Approve the bridge transaction in your wallet

Useful Tip: You can use the official Gnosis Chain Bridge to move funds between Ethereum and Gnosis Chain. You get a 1:1 conversion if you bridge DAI or USDS into xDAI on Gnosis Chain with no additional fees other than the gas fee to make the transaction.

💳 Method B: Buy Crypto with Fiat

Use fiat-to-crypto on-ramp services that support Gnosis Chain:

• Providers: Ramp, Mt Pelerin

• Choose to buy xDai on Gnosis Chain

• Enter your MetaMask wallet address

• Follow the instructions to complete your purchase

   

🏦 Method C: Withdraw from a Centralised Exchange (CEX)

Some exchanges (e.g., AscendEx) support Gnosis Chain withdrawals:

1. Buy xDai or another Gnosis Chain token on the exchange

2. Choose Withdraw

3. Enter your MetaMask wallet address

4. ⚠️ Important: Select Gnosis Chain as the withdrawal network

Warning: Withdrawing on the wrong network (e.g., Ethereum) may result in permanent loss of funds.
