Card Limitations & Restrictions
Updated over a month ago

The Gnosis Pay Card operates with some some limitations compared to traditional bank debit cards or other crypto cards. Due to its self-custodial design and fully on-chain transactions, certain restrictions are in place to ensure secure and compliant usage.

Limitations and Restrictions

1. Country Restrictions

In compliance with international regulations and to protect the Gnosis community, card usage is prohibited in certain countries.

  • See the full list of restricted countries here.

2. Prohibited Transactions

  • No Rental Cars or Automated Fuel Dispensers: To avoid holds on funds, transactions at rental car agencies and gas stations (automated fuel dispensers) are restricted.

3. No Virtual Card Support

  • Virtual Cards are currently unavailable. They are on the product roadmap and are expected in the second half of 2024.

4. No Magstripe Support

  • Magstripe transactions are not supported. This older technology is being phased out globally and will not be supported on Gnosis Card.

5. Currency Restrictions

  • Supported Currencies: EURe for the EEA, Switzerland, and Gibraltar, and GBPe for the UK.

Note: When making card payments in a foreign country, select the local currency if prompted to reduce foreign exchange fees.

Best Practices for Using Your Gnosis Card

The Gnosis Pay Card is integrated with a Safe account configured specifically for secure and effective use in a payment environment. We recommend following these guidelines:

  1. Use Only the Gnosis Pay WebApp: Avoid using the Safe interface directly to manage your funds, as this could cause issues with card functionality.

  2. Avoid Changing Safe Configurations: Any modifications to the Safe setup can disrupt the card’s functionality.

  3. Send Only EURe and GBPe to Your Safe: Other tokens sent to your Safe will not automatically convert to EURe or GBPe.

  4. Send Tokens Only on Gnosis Chain: Since the Safe is a smart contract wallet, tokens cannot be transferred across chains like an EOA (Externally Owned Account).

  5. Avoid Sending EURe or GBPe to Centralized Exchange Addresses: For security and compatibility reasons, do not send EURe from your Safe to centralized exchange deposit addresses.

By following these best practices and understanding these limitations, you’ll be able to maximize the convenience and security of your Gnosis Card.
