This article explains how to disable Gnosis Pay functionality and return your Gnosis Card Safe to a standard Gnosis Safe. It outlines two options: a safe, recommended method and a highly advanced method that involves removing the Delay Module manually.
⚠️ Read This First
You already have full control of your Gnosis Card Safe — even while using the Gnosis Pay Card. However, if you wish to stop using the Gnosis Card entirely, and no longer want your Safe to include the Gnosis Pay security modules, you have two options.
Warning: Removing the Delay Module is an advanced and high-risk technical action.
Do not proceed unless you fully understand the implications and smart contract interactions involved. Gnosis Pay support cannot recover funds lost due to incorrect configuration.
✅ Recommended Method: Move Funds Out of the Card Safe
This is the safest and most accessible method. It does not involve any technical changes to the Safe itself.
Steps:
Open your Gnosis Card Safe in a compatible wallet interface (e.g., the Gnosis Pay WebApp or partner apps like Metri, Zeal or Picnic).
Transfer all remaining EURe, GBPe, or USDCe to a wallet you control (e.g., your MetaMask or another Safe).
Wait for the 3-minute delay to pass before the transaction completes.
Once your Safe balance reaches zero, the card becomes functionally inactive. This method involves no smart contract risks and ensures continued security of your funds.
🛠️ Advanced Method: Removing the Delay Module
This permanently reverts your Gnosis Card Safe back to a standard configuration. Your card will no longer function after this change.
Technical Summary:
What it does: Removes the Gnosis Pay Delay Module, restoring immediate execution permissions on your Safe.
Result: Your Gnosis Pay card will be permanently disabled.
Required Skill Level: Advanced users only. You must be confident interacting with smart contracts directly.
How to Proceed (Advanced Only)
To revert your Safe to a standard configuration, you’ll need to execute a series of smart contract actions. This typically includes:
Adding a new owner to the Safe (if needed),
Removing the current module owner (if applicable),
And finally, disabling the Delay Module that powers Gnosis Pay functionality.
This is not a single-click operation. It requires careful sequencing of on-chain calls, including addOwnerWithThreshold, removeOwner, and disableModule.
⚠️ This process must be done via a Safe-compatible interface or directly through a smart contract interaction platform.
Mistakes may result in loss of access to your Safe or incomplete removal of modules.⚠️ Gnosis Pay support will not walk you through this process nor provide recovery assistance if it is done incorrectly.
Unless you are fully confident in executing this type of contract logic, we recommend sticking with the recommended method: simply withdrawing your funds.
❓ Should You Do This?
For 99% of users, simply moving your funds out is the safer and smarter option. The advanced method exists only for edge cases where reverting the Safe is critical for power users.
