If you've lost access to your wallet
Last updated: September 18, 2026
IF YOU ONLY READ ONE THING
If the wallet is genuinely gone, the funds in that Safe can't be recovered. Some of this is recoverable - work through the checks below before assuming the worst.
But be aware: if the wallet is genuinely gone, the funds in that Safe can't be recovered by anyone, including us. We never held your keys, so there's nothing for us to restore.
FIRST, CHECK WHETHER IT'S REALLY GONE
Did you ever add a second owner? Any owner has full control, so a second wallet is a complete route back in. Try signing in with it.
Is the recovery phrase anywhere? A password manager, a printed backup, an old phone or laptop. Restoring the wallet from its phrase gives you the Safe back.
Did you sign in through a partner app? The wallet may be held or recoverable by them. Contact them first.
Is it lost, or just not working? A broken device, an uninstalled app or a forgotten password are usually recoverable. A lost recovery phrase is not.
WHAT WE CAN DO
We can check which wallets own your Safe. Email help@gnosispay.com with your Safe address. People are often surprised to find a second owner they'd forgotten about - so do this before assuming anything is lost.
If the wallet really is gone, we can reset your Gnosis Pay identity checks so you can sign up again with a partner app using a new wallet.
That gives you a new account and a new Safe. It doesn't recover the old Safe or move funds out of it. We can do this until 20 December 2026, when the card programme ends. After that you can sign up with a partner app directly - you'd go through their identity checks as a new customer.
Anyone offering to recover your wallet or seed phrase for a fee is a scam. Wallet recovery services don't exist - a lost key can't be reconstructed. Never share your recovery phrase with anyone, including anyone claiming to be from Gnosis Pay. We will never ask for it.
IF YOU CAN STILL SIGN BUT EXPECT TO LOSE ACCESS
A failing device, a phone you're replacing, a wallet you're moving away from - withdraw your funds now, while you still can. 📄 Withdrawing after your card stops
HOW TO AVOID THIS : ADD A SECOND OWNER
A second wallet you control is the only thing that makes a lost wallet survivable. This hasn't changed with the wind-down, but the easy way to do it goes away when the web app closes - after that you'd be doing it on-chain yourself.
Any owner has full control of your Safe. A second owner can move all your funds and change your Safe's modules on its own, without the first owner's approval.
So it protects you against losing a wallet, not against one being compromised — you'd have two wallets to keep safe instead of one. Only add a wallet you fully control, never someone else's.
To add one
In the web app, go to Account → Account details
Click Edit under Account Owners, then Add address
Enter the address - it must be on Gnosis Chain
Approve the transaction. You'll need a little xDAI for gas.
Wait out the 3-minute security delay. Your card is restricted while it confirms.
Then test it. Sign in with the new wallet and make a small transaction. An untested backup owner is an assumption, not a backup.
Adding or removing owners doesn't affect your card's spending permissions.
